Trade Justice

The LMLG is a member of a coalition of local organisations working together to raise awareness of fair trade and trade justice and played a major role in helping to establish Leicester’s status as a Fairtrade City in 2002.

The coalition co-ordinates a range of events designed to increase understanding of trade issues, promote fairtrade and inform people of the impact their consumer choices can have on global inequality.

Make Poverty History

Make Poverty History is the UK’s voice in the Global Call to Action Against Poverty which aims to drive forward the struggle against poverty and injustice through a unique alliance of charities, trade unions, campaigning groups, faith communities and celebrities. Mobilising around key opportunities in 2005, such as the G8 gathering in Scotland, those involved intend to influence urgent and meaningful policy change on 3 critical and inextricably linked areas: TRADE, DEBT and AID.

NSC Education

Nicaragua Solidarity Campaign (NSC) works to address economic disadvantage in Nicaragua by channelling material and moral support to partner organisations and communities and building solidarity with these organisations and communities.

A New NSC Campaign on education

This year, NSC is launching a new campaign on education. At its heart will be solidarity with the new Nicaraguan government in its efforts to meet the Millennium Development Goal of a complete primary education for all by 2015. This year marks the halfway mark since that goal was set by the United Nations in 1999. Yet in Nicaragua the goal is actually receding, as successive governments have been forced by the IMF and the World Bank to cut public spending.
