Cuban-born artist Osvaldo Chacon had played alongside many of the great salsa artists, including Celia Cruz, Ruben Blades, Oscar de Leon and others. He delighted us with the great Timba sound of his 7-piece ensemble "Chacon y su Timba" - a London-based band with a fantastic reputation!

In June, we held an event, Rich World, Poor World, which involved a lunch aimed at highlighting global inequality, with a focus on Nicaragua and development projects in Masaya. MPH banners are appearing on a number of buildings, including the Town Hall (where our office is based) and On World White Band Day (1 July), the LMLG joined over a hundred local supporters to wrap the Victorian fountain outside the Town Hall in a giant white band. Details of local MPH events can be found on www.skillshare.org.
In 2005, the LMLG devised and presented an all day event to raise awareness of Leicester’s twinning links as part of the ‘Leicester and Me’ project, a large-scale community festival celebrating Leicester’s cultural diversity. The aim was to raise the profile of Leicester’s global links with its twin cities around the world and show how town-twinning promotes increased understanding of different cultural traditions and helps to foster friendship between peoples of the world.
